INSEK Weißwasser
Visual Identity & Graphic System

Commissioned by the municipality of Weißwasser and led by Urban Catalyst GmbH in collaboration with brethdelacalle Architekten, the project responds to major transformation processes such as demographic change, economic restructuring and the energy transition. As part of the integrated urban development concept INSEK, the city developed a strategic framework for the next 10 to 15 years, supported by an extensive public participation process.

My role focused on translating complex urban challenges and strategic goals into a coherent and accessible graphic language. I developed the visual identity including color system, typography and flexible layout structures for both print and digital formats. This identity became the foundation for a broader communication campaign that is recognizable, courageous and approachable while remaining trustworthy and professional.

One of the most distinctive elements of the campaign is a series of illustrated, humanized animal characters inspired by the natural landscape surrounding Weißwasser. Each character represents a specific key development theme, making strategic priorities tangible and engaging for residents, politicians and all participants in the process. In addition, Weißwasser’s well known tile art became a central visual reference. The grid structure of tiles is embedded in the illustrations and key visuals, reinforcing a strong local identity. Together, the animal characters and the tile grid create a campaign that is deeply rooted in place and highly relatable to the people of Weißwasser who were invited to actively shape the city’s future.
